The British Board of Film Classification has revealed the running time for Marvel’s latest Phase II entry THOR: THE DARK WORLD. We wouldn’t normally run an article regarding an official running time but it’s been well known there were significant problems behind-the-scenes and in post-production on the action-adventure sequel. Rumours suggested a mediator was brought in to broker a compromise between director Alan Taylor and Marvel chief Kevin Feige regarding the film’s running time and very late reshoots supposedly needed to fix the film.
Director Taylor, best known for working on the epic series Game Of Thrones, submitted a version of the comic-book film running at 150 minutes. This apparently infuriated Feige who said Taylor was contracted for a theatrical cut no longer than 120 minutes. This before those reshoots were later scheduled and costing Marvel even more money.
As you can see below, it appears Feige has won the war as the confirmed running time is 111 minutes and 53 seconds, making it actually Marvel’s shortest film. Is that Feige making a statement? Expect that compromise to see Taylor’s vision possibly appear in an extended home entertainment cut.
THOR: THE DARK WOLD stars Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Kat Dennings, Christopher Eccleston, Tom Hiddleston, Idris Elba, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Ray Stevenson, Zachary Levi, Tadanobu Asano, Jaimie Alexander, Rene Russo and Anthony Hopkins. It thunders into UK cinemas 30th October and the US 8th November.

I’m sorry but this is ridiculous 40 minutes taken out of a film? I know that scenes and stuff like this gets taken out but are they not concerned with telling a good story? I just hope they’re not leaving big holes in the story because of this

Wouldn’t getting 30 extra minutes for free potentially be a good thing?
Is Feige really a winner before seeing the outcome of the film and how well it’s received, knowing 40 minutes have been torn out of it?

Those of us who need to heed the call of nature every 90 minutes or so are thankful for keeping movies at a reasonable length.
