BATMAN VS SUPERMAN is just as much of a hot topic on the internet as STAR WARS EPISODE VII these days, from Ben Affleck’s controversial casting as Batman to who will play the villain of the film. One other question that has been banded around quite a bit is whether or not the award winning Hans Zimmer will return to score the sequel after working on both Christopher Nolan’s DARK KNIGHT trilogy and Zack Synder’s MAN OF STEEL.
Vulture recently interviewed Zimmer and asked him again whether or not he will be working with Synder for a second time on BATMAN VS SUPERMAN, here is what he had to say:
‘Honestly, I’m just sort of grappling with that right now. Quite seriously, the thought right now is that no, I don’t want to go and take what I did with Chris and just plonk it into another movie. There isn’t one good reason to do it, and there are so many good reasons not to do it’.
‘I really enjoyed working with Zack Snyder, so part of it would be a personal decision. At the same time, I wouldn’t want to put the ideas I used in the Chris Nolan Batman movies into a Superman movie. It just wouldn’t feel right’.
‘I’m a procrastinator, and right now, I don’t want to make a decision,. Zack hasn’t talked to me about it, so I don’t have to worry about it! I’ll worry about it when I have to worry about it, and then, if I’m lucky, I’ll have an idea. If I have an idea, I can do something with that, but if I don’t have an idea, then my good idea is going to be, ‘Get somebody else”.
Zimmer went on to express his diminishing interest in sequels, stating:
‘I didn’t really enjoy myself much on Pirates 4, and I love that with The Dark Knight Rises, Chris said, ‘That’s it”.
Given that BATMAN VS SUPERMAN is set to shoot early next year for a July 2015 release date, expect to hear further details on Zimmer’s involvement sooner rather than later. It would certainly be a shame if Zimmer was not given the opportunity to combine his work on both Batman and Superman for what would surely be a glorious score.
