More Clips From Steve McQueen’s Harrowing Biopic ’12 Years A Slave’

We’ve another collection of clips from Steve McQueen’s harrowing, historical slave drama 12 YEARS A SLAVE. Following a number of screenings, the film is currently the early frontrunner for the upcoming award season, with lead Chiwetel Ejiofor finally being looked at as a possible Oscar favourite following years as an outstanding supporting actor.

Ejiofor plays the unfortunate Solomon Northup in the star-studded biopic following the tragic life of the well-educated, black New York-born husband and father. A man brutally beaten in a back alley and sold into slavery during the 1850s. He missed out on his children’s childhood while forced to work into the plantation fields for the well-to-do. He documented his harrowing ordeal in the book 12 YEARS A SLAVE, which McQueen has adapted.

12 YEARS A SLAVE co-stars Michael Fassbender, Benedict Cumberbatch, Paul Dano, Garret Dillahunt, Paul Giamatti, Scoot McNairy, Lupita Nyong’o, Adepero Oduye, Sarah Paulson, Brad Pitt, Michael Kenneth Williams and Alfre Woodard. It’s released in the US on the 18th October and a UK date of the 24th January 2014.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
