Damian Lewis To Star Opposite Nicole Kidman’s ‘Queen of the Desert’

The Golden Globe- and Emmy-winning British actor Damian Lewis is best known for his roles in popular series BAND OF BROTHERS and HOMELAND, and much less so for his part in the dreadful and blasphemous (to the source material) STORMBREAKER. That comment wasn’t too relevant, but I found my old STORMBREAKER DVD yesterday and nearly cried from the memories. It’s now in a pile ready to go to the charity shop, from where some poor sod will purchase it and regret the decision for life. But at least I’ll be rid of it.

Random tangent aside, the brilliant Damian Lewis is set to star opposite Nicole Kidman in QUEEN OF THE DESERT, directed by Werner Herzog (BAD LIEUTENANT). The true-story film follows Kidman as archaeologist, writer and spy Gertrude Bell who, in the early 20th century, traveled throughout the Middle East and became an influential political officer in modern Iraq. Lewis will play Lieutenant Colonel Charles Doughty-Wylie, who became romantically involved with Bell from 1913 until he was fatally shot in the face by a sniper (ouch) at Gallipoli in 1915. It will be great to hear Lewis talking in his native English accent after playing an American in HOMELAND.

The film is being produced by Nick Raslan’s Palmyra Films, alongside Cassian Elwes and Michael Benaroya. There is currently no release date.
