***WARNING: SPOILERS AHEAD***
Unless you’ve been hiding under a rock for the past year, you’ll know things haven’t been smooth sailing on the production of the second film in Marvel Studios’ Phase II canon. THOR: THE DARK WORLD sees the return of Chris Hemsworth’s God Of Thunder and it’s one that didn’t get off to a great start when original choice to helm – Patty Jenkins – was replaced by Alan Taylor, citing creative differences. During post-production Taylor and Marvel chief Kevin Feige have apparently been at war over reshoots, running times and music composer choices. Now, while promoting the upcoming adventure Taylor has addressed another problem he has with the picture.
The film which you can catch our review of HERE, features a mid-credit scene (as well as a post credit scene) introducing a blond Benicio Del Toro as The Collector, who is the main villain of James Gunn’s forthcoming GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY. When asked if he directed it, Taylor sharply responded:
I absolutely did not. I am very happy to not take responsibility. It’s a different tone. I would have shot it differently. But I think it’s cool that it reaches out and touches that other universe. That universe is coming. The ‘Guardians’ universe is really cool and wacky, but that sequence in the credits, I would say, is the only part of the movie where I’m happy to give the credit away.
Asked if James Gunn directed it, Taylor added:
I wouldn’t blame it on James Gunn. It’s clearly his sets and his characters, [but] I wouldn’t attribute it to James Gunn.
It’s been later confirmed by Marvel head Kevin Feige that Gunn did indeed direct the sequence.
Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
