THN Interview Tom Wlaschiha For ‘Crossing Lines’

Tom Wlaschiha Crossing Lines

Crossing Lines is a new show thats hitting the UK today. Don’t bother looking through your television listings though as you won’t find it there, instead once you’ve read this article head on over to the LoveFilm website. This is where you will find the show in its entirety. Ahead of the launch we caught up with two of the cast, William Fitchner and Tom Wlaschiha.

The show follows a law enforcement group called the International Criminal Court (ICC), a sort of global FBI, as they work together to solve crimes that span multiple countries. The team is made up of specialists from all over Europe and America. One such specialist is tech whiz Sebastian Berger played by Tom Wlaschiha who has a long standing career in his native country of Germany but is most known on our shores for his fantastic role of Jaqer H’ghar in Game Of Thrones.

When THN caught up with Tom it was the day after the premiere (which we also attended), and didn’t seem too worse for wear considering the free bar. We chatted about all things Crossing Lines; it was his previously mentioned role in Game Of Thrones that put him on executive produce Rola Bauer’s radar. He also admitted that he may play a tech savvy character in the show but that is all acting as he is not at all good with anything electronic. Tom explained that he luckily has someone he can call to explain gadgets to him.  One of his friends is also a member of the Berlin police department and it was this friend that confirmed that one of the shows main pieces of technology the ‘Scan-Gen’ does exist in reality, though isn’t quite as advanced as it is within the show.

Although not featured too heavily in the first two episodes I was promised that his character Sebastian Berger will develop as the show goes on, and apparently he has a dark secret that may be exposed.

When asked about his relationship with his fellow cast he stated that everyone got on well which you can’t always count on happening. He spoke very highly of co-stars Donald Sutherland and William Fichtner explaining that they both rely a lot on improvisation during filming which aided him in scenes with them. One of the highlights of filming a show like Crossing Lines appears to be the filming locations, shooting is currently underway on the second series and so far they have filmed in Bulgaria, Prague and Monaco which is definitely nice work if you can get it.

I also managed to get a quick question in about his time on Game Of Thrones and how it differed to Crossing Lines, turns out the main difference is the amount of time he was in make up (in Game Of Thrones his character wears a long haired wig). The scale of the two shows is obviously very different but Tom insisted that this doesn’t matter once you get onto set as all your focus on is the scene you’re working on there and then.
