Clive Barker Claims His ‘Hellraiser’ Reboot Will “Push The Envelope Of Extreme Content”

Over the weekend, we reported that Clive Barker’s pitch to Dimension Films and The Weinstein Company impressed them enough for them to allow him to write the screenplay to his directorial debut, based on his own novel The Hellbound Heart. He’s since took to his Facebook fan page to give his legion of supporters a further update and answer a couple of questions. While the film is by no means green lit, we await with interest to see how this all pans out.

As questions are asked I’ll do my best to answer them, though as you all know making movies is a volatile art, and things seldom remain fixed. One question regarding the rating has been asked. I asked it too, and Dimension confirmed that they are purely interested in an R-rated picture.

He also addressed the fact that many believe he’s going backwards in not doing something new.

Somebody else asked why I’m not writing something original. The answer is that I am. After Hellraiser I intend to write and direct a completely new horror movie, which will mingle graphic horror and erotic content, to create an unrated film which will push the envelope of extreme content further than ever…

Barker also wanted Dimension to know he’d only see Doug Bradley as his S&M-loving cenobite Pinhead and says the studio seemed to agree. However, Bradley recently commented:

This is intriguing news, about which I know absolutely nothing. No one has contacted or spoken to me about returning. So until you hear from me to the contrary, assume that all rumors about me returning as Pinhead are only rumours. Peace & Pain.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.

Wrong title! Have you even read your own post? It’s not Hellraiser that will “push the envelope of extreme content” but Barker’s next movie after that.
