Everybody loves minions right? Well, Universal Pictures and Illumination Entertainment have proudly announced that audiences have flocked to see them as DESPICABLE ME 2 has now grossed $906.2 million worldwide.
NBC Universal chief Steve Burke mentioned at an earnings call in July that the film is the studio’s highest grossing feature of all time, given that Universal was formed over 101 years ago that’s quite an achievement. DESPICABLE ME 2 is inching ever closer that billion dollar mark as the second highest grossing film this year after the mighty IRON MAN 3.
The film certainly isn’t stopping there as its achievements and benchmarks also include being the highest grossing animated film this year, the 5th highest grossing animated film of all-time and 6th highest grossing animated film overseas. Universal will have high expectations for the upcoming MINIONS spin off set to be released late next year as well as the inevitable third film in the series.
