CBS Developing ‘How I Met Your Mother’ Spin Off

Himym

The popular CBS series How I Met Your Mother is currently in its ninth and final season now that the show has  revealed the title character of ‘the mother’ and how its protagonist Ted Mosby (Josh Radnor) began his life with her.

The networks flagship show has not only held together their Monday night lineup but has also shown mass popularity around the world. Without How I Met Your Mother, CBS is going to be on the hunt for a new hit comedy to fill the void that will be left when the show bows out early next year. Here is what Deadline have to say about the potential spin off:

‘Referred to as How I Met Your Father, the spin off hails from HIMYM  creators/executive producers Carter Bays and Craig Thomas and Up All Night creator/exec producer Emily Spivey. It would feature a new group of New York friends and chronicle a female member of the group’s quest to meet her future husband. I hear the new characters could be introduced in the HIMYM series finale, and Ted, Barney, Marshall, Lily and Robin’s favorite hangout, MacLaren’s Pub, may be featured on the new show, serving as a link between the two gangs’.

Whilst a spin off of this nature may be criticized for its similarity to the original series, it’s easy to see why the network is eager to continue the success of the franchise. Check back with The Hollywood News for more updates on How I Met Your Mother.

If they don’t drag the plot through nine seasons and keep… wait for it… Neil Patrick Harris, it might be watchable but honestly, it feels a bit too much like a retread.
