Jeff Katz has plenty of credits under the title of associate, executive, and consulting producer, but he has 10 films in pre-production on his IMDb profile which all list him as producer. He can now add an 11th to that filmography in the form of SLEEPAWAY CAMP. The 30 year old cult classic, which went on to spawn 5 sequels including one released just last year (although that was made up from unfinished footage shot in 1992), followed a young girl sent away to summer camp only to find herself in a nightmarish situation. And we’re not just talking acoustic guitars around the fire place.
Katz will produce alongside the writer and director of the original and RETURN TO SLEEPAWAY CAMP, Robert Hiltzik. It will be great to see the franchise on the big screen again, but horror reboots such as HALLOWEEN, FRIDAY THE 13TH and A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET have all paled in comparison to their originals. However, SLEEPAWAY CAMP was never as monumental as those three in the first place, so perhaps the only way is up.
