Like a lot of fans, I have high hopes for the latest mutant-filled adventure featuring those evolutionary icons the X-MEN. There is so much to consider when looking at DAYS OF FUTURE PAST. We’ve Bryan Singer returning to the directors chair for the first time since the impressive X2. The story, based on Chris Claremont’s famed comic-book arc, follows arguably two of the franchises best in FIRST CLASS and this summers enjoyable THE WOLVERINE. Then, of course, we have the incredible cast uniting from Matthew Vaughn’s well-recieved prequel, with those elders originally brought on by Singer… and that trailer? Wow!
Michael Fassbender, returning as the younger Erik Lensherr (aka Magneto), has been speaking about the changes he’s made in an attempt to merge with the man playing the older version of his character, Ian McKellen. Those who complained about the Irishman’s previous incarnation of the metallic manipulator (or more specifically his voice and accent), could be in for a surprise:
I hope it’s not too much of a weird switch, but in the first one it was a concern for me..and I actually kind of wish I did this [accent] the first time. Because at the beginning I was studying McKellen and doing that cadence…But Matthew kind of liked my accent and my rhythms…But on this one I listened to McKellen constantly. I had him on my iPhone all the time.
So Fassbender himself was initially disappointed with the way he tackled the accent in Vaughn’s film but hopes this time it’s not “too sharp a leap” from what he’d did for his first outing. To excite you even further we’ve a look at the 1970s-styled suit for DOFP as well as a battle with Nicholas Hoult’s Beast!
The film to beat next summer? Damn right!
X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST stars Hugh Jackman, Ian McKellen, Patrick Stewart, James McAvoy, Jennifer Lawrence, Michael Fassbender, Nicholas Hoult, Anna Paquin, Ellen Page, Shawn Ashmore, Peter Dinklage, Omar Sy, Halle Berry, Daniel Cudmore, Fan Bingbing, Boo Boo Stewart, Adam Canto, Evan Peters, Josh Helman and Lucas Till. It’s slated for cinemas 23rd May 2014.
Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.

Still think that Beast should be a darker blue than what they did… But at least they do good movies..
