The BBC have confirmed that their DOCTOR WHO docu-drama, AN ADVENTURE IN SPACE AND TIME, will air on the 21st November on BBC Two. The 90 minute film tells the story of how DOCTOR WHO came to be created way back in 1963 and the various problems and challenges that awaited the production team as they made what would become one of the longest running television dramas ever. It stars David Bradley (of HARRY POTTER fame) as first Doctor William Hartnell.

Writer Mark Gatiss says:

“This is a story that I’ve always wanted to tell. In fact I pitched it for the 40th anniversary ten years ago and now it’s finally happening! I wanted to write it because I grew up with Doctor Who and even though Jon Pertwee was my Doctor, the legend of how the show began has always been there for me, in my blood. From how the show started small, then along came the Daleks, and ultimately, how the part changed William Hartnell’s life – this is a story that had to be told.”

The film is just part of a huge selection of programmes being made by the BBC to celebrate the fiftieth anniversary on November 23rd. an exact start time will be confirmed closer to transmission. For me, being a massive bona-fide Whovian, this is one of the more exciting and intriguing projects that’s being rolled out for the anniversary celebrations. It’s a fascinating story indeed, one that deserves to be told. What 50th Anniversary stuff are you folks excited for? Let us know.

From an early age, Matt Dennis dreamt of one day becoming a Power Ranger. Having achieved that dream back in the noughties, he’s now turned his hand to journalism and broadcasting. Matt can often be found in front of a TV screen, watching his current favourite shows such as DOCTOR WHO, GAME OF THRONES, SHERLOCK, DAREDEVIL, and THE WALKING DEAD, though he’s partial to a bit of vintage TV from yesteryear. Matt also co-presents the Geek Cubed podcast, which you can download from iTunes. It’s quite nice.
