The UK capital of London may play perfectly to the glitz and glamour of the West End theatre shows but it’s also a great place to showcase the seedier side of the gritty crime thrillers such as THE LONG GOOD FRIDAY and THE FIRM. Following in their ruthless gangland and hooligan footsteps will be Richwater Films’ TOP DOG, which is adapted by Dougie Brimson from his own novel.

GREEN STREET’s Leo Gregory leads the film alongside familiar British faces as Ricci Hartnett (RISE OF THE FOOTSOLDIER) and Vincent Regan (ST. GEORGE’S DAY). The press release below confirms shooting is now underway and the full confirmed cast. Former Spandau Ballet member Martin Kemp, and star of Peter Medak’s brilliant and brutal biopic THE KRAYS, directs!

LEO GREGORY, RICCI HARNET & VINCENT REGAN TO STAR IN RICHWATER FILMS’ TOP DOG

Principal photography commenced on 04/11/2013

London, 4th November 2013 – Richwater Films are delighted to announce principal photography has commenced on feature film Top Dog. The picture is being shot on location across London.

Top Dog is produced by Jonathan Sothcott (Vendetta, Assassin) and directed by Martin Kemp (The Krays).  Top Dog is written by Dougie Brimson, based on his original novel, and stars Leo Gregory (Green Street, Cass), Ricci Harnett (28 Days Later, Rise Of The Foot Soldier), Vincent Regan (Bonded By Blood, Clash Of The Titans), Danielle Brent (Ill Manors), Lorraine Stanley (London To Brighton) and also introduces rising British acting talent, George Russo.

Hooligan gang leader, Billy Evans (Leo Gregory), is above the law. He knows it, and they know it. And when you regard the law as an irrelevance, all kinds of opportunities can open up for you. Especially when you begin to exert your increasingly powerful influence over the back street pubs and clubs of East London. But he’s about to discover that this time, he’s finally pushed his luck too far. And this time it isn’t the law he’ll have to contend with. It’s something far more dangerous.

Producer Jonathan Sothcott, Richwater Films, said,

“Our aim with Top Dog has always been to make an iconic genre film like The Football Factory or Green Street. In Dougie Brimson we have perhaps the top hooligan writer in Europe and the script he’s turned in is superior even to his cult novel which it is based on. Finding the right director to bring Dougie’s story to the screen was crucial and in Martin Kemp we have an exciting film-maker with a phenomenal wealth of experience who’ll bring a really gritty panache to the movie. I’m delighted to be giving Leo Gregory the platform to deliver a truly game changing performance and with him locking horns with Ricci Harnett and Vincent Regan, the scene is set for a truly epic British gangster movie.”

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
