Aaron Eckhart, he of THE DARK KNIGHT, BATTLE: LOS ANGELES and OLYMPUS HAS FALLEN fame, is set to (presumably) don a Hawaiian shirt for Robert Salerno’s psychological thriller FADE OUT.
The film follows screenwriter Jim Connelly (Eckhart), a screenwriter who spends his days in a tropical beachfront villa with his wife Anne. But the line between fiction and reality begins to blur as he writes his latest screenplay about a jealous husband who murders his unfaithful wife, with Jim experiencing hallucinations and paranoia after a recent breakdown.
As the events in his screenplay begin to come to fruition, Jim finds himself a suspect in his own wife’s disappearance. Producer Anthony Bregman says the film will have plenty of surprises:
‘Fade Out’ is as irresistible as a potent Caribbean cocktail: a twisted mind-bending thriller set in a sun-soaked beach town — from a smart script full of surprising twists, and with true artists in front of and behind the camera.’
It all sounds a bit along the lines of RUBY SPARKS, or maybe even MISERY, with lines between pen/ink and the real world blurring into one, and authors getting tangled up in a world that’s a little bit meta. Not that there’s anything wrong with that – both films cited do great things with the concept and hopefully Salerno’s effort should be just as good. In any case, Eckhart is a very formidable casting choice and should have no problems with the script, written by Pulitzer Prize winner Michael Cristofor.
FADE OUT is currently in pre-production, with principal photography beginning in February 2014.
