Samuel L Jackson And Michael Caine Team Up For ‘Harry And The Butler’

Samuel L Jackson Oldboy

Michael Caine is set to reprise butler duties for George C. Wolfe’s latest project, HARRY AND THE BUTLER. The drama-cum-comedy will also star Samuel L Jackson as a rollercoaster mechanic who inherits a large sum of money, and thus decides to employ down-on-his-luck Caine.

The project will start shooting on location in Louisiana in 2014, from a script by Damian F. Slattery loosely based on the 1962 Danish film HARRY OG KAMMERTJENEREN. Radiant Films’ Mimi Steinbauer will introduce HARRY AND THE BUTLER to foreign buyers at the American Film Market this week, saying:

‘The great Sam Jackson and the legendary Michael Caine instantly elevate any project they are in and combined, their exceptional talent will make for great chemistry on screen in this moving, humorous story. We expect buyers to embrace this touching and heartwarming film at AFM.’

The producers say the film is following in ‘the honorable tradition of so many classic films’ in which two characters meet through a chance encounter and have their lives changed forever, so yes, it doesn’t sound particularly original, but at least they’ve chosen two fantastic actors to bring it to life.

At one point during casting, Anthony Hopkins and Morgan Freeman were set to star. While they’re also both incredibly competent actors, I’m quite glad Caine and Jackson are up for the film now – who doesn’t want to see Alfred back on screen, and to work for Mace Windu, no less?
