BATMAN VS SUPERMAN discussion has gone into overdrive this past week thanks to a number of incredibly exciting rumours surrounding the project. Not only is Diana Prince AKA Wonder Woman rumoured to make an appearance in the upcoming MAN OF STEEL sequel but also Batman’s former sidekick Dick Grayson/Nightwing may show up.
As the days go by and we get ever closer to the February start date for principal photography on BATMAN VS SUPERMAN, its becoming more and more clear that Warner Bros and DC Entertainment intend to include Wonder Woman in the film. Now it’s been revealed that three actresses are testing for the role including the recently rumoured Olga Kurylenko (QUANTUM OF SOLACE, OBLIVION). The other two that apparently have or will screen test for the role are Gal Gadot (FAST & FURIOUS) and Elodie Yung (G.I. JOE: RETALIATION). My personal favourite for the role is Kurylenko but there is always the possibility that other actresses will test for the part aswell. Variety also add that Jamie Alexander is out of the running for Wonder Woman due to her existing commitments to future THOR films for Marvel, which is a real shame because she would have been perfect for the part. Here is what Variety have to say about Warner Bros’ plan for the character:
‘The Wonder Woman rumor has been kicked around for some time and insiders believe the plan is to not just have Batman appear in the film, in addition to Superman, but several members of the Justice League as well. It’s unclear which members but Wonder Woman (Diana Prince) and the Flash are said to be locks to make an appearance in some fashion, whether that’s a significant role or a cameo’.
You can also see the three actresses in contention for the part of Wonder Woman below:
Whilst it has been stated that the part these actresses are auditioning for could be a separate love interest for Bruce Wayne, at this point it looks pretty likely to be Wonder Woman. The possibility for other Justice League characters to make appearances is also very tantalizing and a smart move from Warner Bros and DC Entertainment if true, in order to introduce them to mainstream audiences before the inevitable Justice League film hits theatres. Although one has to wonder whether The Flash will be played by ARROW’s Grant Gustin to combine both the film and television universes and create a wider DC cinematic universe on screen to rival Marvel’s.
