Despite knowing sod all about the comic-book prior to the feature film announcement, Marvel’s GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY’s is now my most anticipated movie of next summer. All of that is down to the incredible footage shown at San Diego Comic Con in July, which looked both absolutely fantastic and downright hilarious! Passionate fans have been pushing for the footage to be released officially online, while Marvel Studios have remained tight-lipped and director James Gunn has suggested it probably wouldn’t.
Well, Gunn has now come out to end months of (hopeful) speculation by claiming:
Listen, I love it. But it was thrown together after 12 days of shooting, a mix of shots, makeup tests, and camera tests. The visual effects (especially Rocket and Groot) were temps at best. Our ‘Nebula’ isn’t even Karen Gillan in the footage, but a girl we were testing Karen’s makeup on. So although it perfectly captures the flavor of the film, there’s no way it would hold up to the scrutiny that comes with posting something like that on the internet – nor would the general audience be able to understand ‘these are just temps and comps and makeup tests.’ So it is never ever going to happen, except for maybe on the Blu-Ray AFTER the film comes out.
There you have it. You’ll be lucky to catch it on the Blu-ray/DVD extras, if at all.
Also, going back to the controversial comments from THOR: THE DARK WORLD’s Alan Taylor regarding that mid-credits sequence in the second Phase II outing, Gunn has stated he’s accepted and apology from the director.
Alan has apologised profusely both personally to me and to the press. He’s a good guy. It was shot in two hours at the end of a 2nd unit day. We had just gotten the script (not by me). We thought it was more important to give people a link to Guardians, but weren’t able to do it until the last minute.
GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY is slated for cinemas from 1st August 2014 and stars Chris Pratt, Vin Diesel, Dave Bautisita, Bradley Cooper, Zoe Saldana, Benicio del Toro, Karen Gillan, Ophelia Lovibond, Lee Pace, Djimon Honsou, Glenn Close, Peter Serafinowicz and John C. Reilly.
