The latest triangle seems to be Knightly/Wright/Period Drama, as following on from ATONEMENT and PRIDE & PREJUDICE, director Joe Wright and pouting thesp extraordinaire Keira Knightley are to collaborate on their third period outing, ANNA KARENINA.
The pair will team up again for an adaptation of Tolstoy’s 1870s classic novel, alongside ATONEMENT alumni and fellow Wright collaborator, Saoirse Ronan (HANNA). The cast also includes period drama stalwarts Matthew Macfadyen (PRIDE & PREJUDICE), KELLY MACDONALD (BOARDWALK EMPIRE) and EMILY WATSON (GOSFORDPARK), while Tom Stoppard (SHAKESPEARE IN LOVE) will provide the screenplay. With such pedigree involved, this movie is sure to be Oscar bait and, better yet, should be very good indeed.
