Emma Thompson Talks About Transformation Into Mary Poppins Author

Ahead of its upcoming release, Walt Disney Pictures has circulated a short clip featuring Emma Thompson talking about her transformation into the Mary Poppins writer.

SAVING MR BANKS charts the real-life relationship between Walt Disney (Tom Hanks) and P. L. Travers (Thompson) as the director tries to persuade Travers to sell the rights to her book. Of course we know Disney was successful –  but we’ll see exactly how he managed to negotiate a contract with the prickly author once the film hits cinemas. After all, how many childhoods would have been very much poorer if not for Dick Van Dyke’s memorable Cockney accent?

Directed by John Lee Hancock, SAVING MR BANKS also stars Colin Farrell, Paul Giamatti and Jason Schwartzman. You can catch the video below:

Claire Joanne Huxham comes from the south-west, where the cider flows free and the air smells of manure. She teaches A-level English by day and fights crime by night. When not doing either of these things she can usually be found polishing her Star Trek DVD boxsets. And when she can actually be bothered she writes fiction and poetry that pops up on the web and in print. Her favourite film in the whole world, ever, is BLADE RUNNER.
