First came news that Kenny Ortega was to indulge in a retelling of the classic 1987 film DIRTY DANCING. Then, word came from Hollywood that a filmmaker named Ericson Core is to reboot a POINT BREAK movie. Now, I hold my head in my hands and shake it furiously as today’s headlines reveal that the classic love story GHOST is to be remade into a television series. In my opinion, Patrick Swayze made four great movies, and out of the three listed just, GHOST was up there as one of my favourites.
The pilot for the planned series, based over at Paramount, who launched their TV division this summer, is set to be written by Akiva Goldsman and Jeff Pinkner. Goldsman won an Oscar in 2001 for his writing on A BEAUTIFUL MIND, while Pinkner is a graduate from the LOST and FRINGE world, so his television pedigree is up there with the best.
“We are thrilled to collaborate with Akiva and Jeff, two deeply creative and accomplished talents, on the television adaptation of this classic supernatural drama,” Paramount TV president Amy Powell said in a statement to The Wrap.
All that is left out of the four great Swayze movies is ROAD HOUSE, so let me get this out there and be done with it. Hollywood? Are you listening?
Title: ROAD HOUSE. Starring: Jason Statham as Dalton, Jennifer Lawrence as Doc, Jeff Bridges as old man Wade Garrett (the bloke who will sleep when he’s dead,) and let’s have Javier Bardem as crazy Brad Wesley. We’ll get Louis Letterier to direct it and I can then get on with my life.
