We’ve already reported on the rumours that one acclaimed actor had tested and was turned down for the role of Lex Luthor in the forthcoming MAN OF STEEL sequel, currently going by BATMAN VS. SUPERMAN. After Jackie Earl Haley was supposedly declined to chance to portray the balding billionaire after screen-testing, it appears Warner Bros. have had the turned with The Following‘s Great British thespian James Purefoy not interested in an offer from the studio.

While the actor also known for supporting roles in A KNIGHT’S TALE, RESIDENT EVIL and SOLOMON KANE is said to have been one of the first choices of director Zack Snyder, Purefoy does not even want to meet to talk about the part. Again, these are all just rumours at the moment with nothing official coming from the studio in terms casting aside from Ben Affleck’s confirmation as the new Dark Knight and a return for Henry Cavill, Amy Adams and Laurence Fishburne.

Early location shooting is already underway but the main cast are not to due to assemble and begin their work until January. The film is also said to be the catalyst to introduce characters that will go on to form JUSTICE LEAGUE and possible solo outings, with Nightwing (Dick Greyson), Wonder Women (Diana Prince) and The Flash (Barry Allen) all expected to appear minus their costumes.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
