The brilliant genre veteran Bill Moseley has joined the gory horror THE SUMMER I DIED after Riothouse Entertainment picked up the rights to the same-title novel (also known as The Roger Huntington Saga) by Ryan C. Thomas. The story centres on two lifelong friends who, while on a day trip into the woods come to the aide of a screaming women, only to find themselves hunted by a backwoods maniac and his bloodthirsty dog.

Moseley, who’s best known for his roles as Chop Top in Tobe Hooper’s horror sequel THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE 2, as well as the ruthless Otis in Rob Zombie intense double HOUSE OF 1000 CORPES and THE DEVIL’S REJECTS, will play the demented sadist known as ‘Skinny Man’.

The indie film will be directed by Eric Pereira with the original author Thomas adapting his own novel. If a success, there are two further unlucky “adventures” featuring the lead character of Roger Huntington. ‘Born To Bleed’ and a forthcoming as-yet-unitled novel expected next year. Below we have the official book synopsis for the first in the saga:

When Roger Huntington comes home from college for the summer and is met by his best friend, Tooth, he knows they’re going to have a good time. A summer full of beer, comic books, movies, laughs, and maybe even girls. The sun is high and the sky is clear as Roger and Tooth set out to shoot beer cans at Bobcat Mountain. Just two friends catching up on lost time, two friends thinking about their futures. . . two friends suddenly thrust into the middle of a nightmare. Forced to fight for their lives against a sadistic killer with an arsenal of razor sharp blades and a hungry dog by his side. If they are to survive, they must decide: are heroes born, or are they made? Or is something more powerful happening to them? And more importantly, how do you survive when all roads lead to death?

We’ll keep you posted as the rest of the cast comes together with shooting set to commence February 2014.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
