Fangs Very Much For New ‘Vampire Academy’ Trailer

A new trailer has been released for The Weinstein Company’s VAMPIRE ACADEMY, directed by Mark Waters.

Now, knowing nothing about the film, I went into this trailer fully expecting a terrible attempt at cashing in on the teen vampire rubbish that TWILIGHT unfortunately cursed all the true lovers of vampire horror with. The once-terrifying creatures have now become as stale a horror sub-genre as zombies, with numerous films and television shows being churned out one after another, meaning it takes something truly phenomenal like The Walking Dead to emerge from the growing puddle of tedium.

What a surprise, then, that VAMPIRE ACADEMY actually looks quite good, something which I thought I’d never say of a film about teenage vamps attending a sort of Hogwarts for blood-drinkers. The humour shown in the trailer works well, likely stemming from Richelle Mead’s novel series on which the film is based, and it looks like it could be interesting if it plays around with established genre conventions. I very much doubt it will be anything to write home about, but it definitely looks like a fun film to watch.

Check out the trailer below and let us know what you think. Would Count Dracula be proud of his species?

VAMPIRE ACADEMY stars Zoey Deutch, Danila Kozlovsky, Lucy Fry, Dominic Sherwood, Olga Kurylenko, Cameron Monaghan, Sami Gayle, Ashley Charles, Claire Foy, Sarah Hyland, Gabriel Byrne and Joely Richardson. It releases in cinemas on 14th February 2014.
