I really, really, really, hope that the new ROBOCOP movie is good. A lot of reputation is relying on it being so, and although the rating and sheer expected greatness are a concern, I’m hopeful that we’ll be digging Jose Padiha’s retelling of the 1987 movie and slapping at least a three or four-star review on it come February.
The promotional campaign from Sony is kicking into gear now, and we’re starting to see a lot of activity across the world pushing the filmbefore the festive period to carry word of its arrival. Here’s a Japanese International TV spot for the movie that delivers more footage.
In RoboCop, the year is 2029 and multinational conglomerate OmniCorp is at the center of robot technology. Their drones are winning American wars around the globe and now they want to bring this technology to the home front. Alex Murphy is a loving husband, father and good cop doing his best to stem the tide of crime and corruption in Detroit. After he is critically injured in the line of duty, OmniCorp utilizes their remarkable science of robotics to save Alex’s life. He returns to the streets of his beloved city with amazing new abilities, but with issues a regular man has never had to face before.
ROBOCOP stars Joel Kinnaman, Gary Oldman, Michael Keaton, Samuel L. Jackson, Jay Baruchel, Abbie Cornish, Jackie Earle Haley, Marianne Jean-Baptiste and Michael Kenneth Williams. It arrives worldwide on 7th February.
