This is a breaking news bulletin. We interrupt your regularly scheduled programming to bring you the following news. What seems too good to be true is finally happening, ladies and gentlemen. The Flash has been confirmed to appear alongside Wonder Woman (played by Gal Gadot) in the upcoming BATMAN VS. SUPERMAN film, the sequel to this years reboot of the Superman franchise MAN OF STEEL. To reiterate however, we do not know to what capacity we will see both characters in the film, which is to say they may introduce them as these superpowered individuals, or have brief cameos readying for future instalments.
In the short span since the announcement, many have wondered just who will be playing The Flash and if Glee actor Grant Gustin will be expanding his role from The Flash in the popularised Arrow (featuring Green Arrow, another DC/Justice League member) onto the silver screen. It’ll be a while before BATMAN VS. SUPERMAN hits cinemas, so Gustin, if considered (though it may be a risky move considering his unfamiliarity with projects of this scale) will have at least a whole other series of Arrow behind his belt, as well as a possible series of his own on CW. If he sticks purely to television, it causes fans to wonder just who will play the speedster.
Not only this, but word has surfaced that Warner Bros. is considering Australian actor Callan Mulvey (see below), from last year’s ZERO DARK THIRTY for the role of a villain (possibly Lex Luthor?) in the upcoming feature. Those unfamiliar with Mulvey will soon see him on your screens with parts in the upcoming 300: RISE OF AN EMPIRE and CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER.
This news may be surprising to many and perhaps rightfully so, what with Warner Bros./DC Comics snatching up an actor that’s featured in a Marvel film (though of course, there was much speculation as to the wonderful Jaimie Alexander in the running for the Amazonian Princess), as well the causing the inevitable question as to ‘just what The Flash and Wonder Woman are doing here?’ The answer, I’m glad to say, is that this is the beginning of a series of events likely to unfold into the long-desired JUSTICE LEAGUE film.
To generally update, BATMAN VS. SUPERMAN is set to feature Henry Cavill, Ben Affleck, Gal Gadot, Amy Adams, Diane Lane and Laurence Fishburne. It is scheduled for release on July 17, 2015.
