‘Saw’ Duo Bringing ‘Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark’ To The Big Screen

We all love a good old fashioned scary story, don’t we? Whether is an urban legend told around a campfire or one featuring a ghostly apparition, they can be very effective. Well, CBS Films are in agreement as they’ve jumped on a pitch from SAW sequel writers Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan (who were also responsible for indie horror double THE COLLECTOR and THE COLLECTION) to adapt Alvin Schwartz’s 1981 classic novel collection ‘Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark’.

Following a surprisingly competitive bidding process, CBS Films were successful and have tasked the duo to adapt the screenplay centred on a group of outcast kids who stand up to their fears to save their town when their horrifying nightmares come to life. Given that the source material (which has sold over 7 million copies worldwide and was followed up for two more novel collections), features various macabre stories, it’s possible the direction could be an anthology, with that simple synopsis as the framing device.

As ever, we’ll keep you posted as the cast and crew come together

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
