After receiving seven awards from the Boston Online Critics, the BSFC are quite obviously also all aboard the slave train, handing 12 YEARS A SLAVE Best Picture, Director and Actor.
Cate Blanchett continues to win over the regional societies with her work in Woody Allen’s BLUE JASMINE, and Ryan Coogler, Emmanuel Lubezki and Joshua Oppenheimer find themselves justly rewarded once more.
However, it’s the BSFC’s decision to honour ENOUGH SAID that is the main talking point here, upsetting in both the Best Supporting Actor and Best Screenplay categories. Although a refreshing change of pace, it’s hard to believe this will do any real damage to current frontrunner Mr. Jared Leto’s chances of Oscar glory. But Fox Searchlight are working hard on its campaign, and both the film and actor are extremely well-liked. Don’t count the late, great Gandolfini out of a nomination just yet.
