Jackman To Pirate Joe Wright’s ‘Pan’ As Blackbeard Villain

Aussie actor Hugh Jackman is said to be in final negotiations to take the lead villain role of Blackbeard in Joe Wright’s fantasy adventure PAN. Warner Bros. have moved on to the X-MEN actor after their first choice – Oscar-winner Javier Bardem – declined the role in the origin tale of J.M. Barrie’s “boy who never grew up”.

Wright’s film will centre on “an orphan who is taken to the magical world of Neverland where he becomes a hero to the natives and leads a revolt against the evil pirates”. The iconic character of Captain Hook will also feature in the film (Ryan Gosling has rumoured to have turned that down) too, but he’ll begin as heroic figure and friend to Pan before ultimately betraying him and turning into the rogue we know and love.

Warner Bros. will offer an open casting for the title role of Peter Pan and are also looking for an actress in her mid-20s to play Tiger Lily

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
