Paul Rudd IS Ant-Man!

Earlier in the month, Rudd got caught on the ole red carpet for the glorious premiere of what will most likely become this year’s biggest comedy, ANCHORMAN 2: THE LEGEND CONTINUES. Evidently, the most important question that came to mind at the time was whether he would be playing Ant-Man in his solo feature, to which Rudd commented (in a rather artificial manner, I might add) :

“Oh, [laughs] that’s all rumour man, sorry. There’s nothing I know, sorry.”

However, just moments ago, Variety reported that its sources over at that big place where lots of comic book things come to life (Marvel HQ) had confirmed that Rudd is indeed going to be playing Ant-Man and that he is currently in early negotiations for the role. Previously, the rumours mill, general internet whisperings and hopefuls all contributed that either Rudd or Joseph Gordon-Levitt would be playing Hank Pym/Ant-Man, but due to JGL’s announced involvement in the adaptation of cult-classic comic Sandman, he might have his hands full. Rudd, you’re up!

Though some might doubt the casting choice for Ant-Man, due to Rudd’s familiarity with comedic roles over action-centric ones, we should remember that Robert Downey Jr. was, for a while greatly doubted for IRON MAN and he turned out to be the best Iron Man we could have hoped for. Whether you agree with the casting or not, (but seriously, who else could even fill those shoes?) voice your opinions below in our comments section!

ANT-MAN will hit cinemas on 31st July, 2015. It is directed by Edgar Wright, Kevin Feige will be producing and (I can now finally say) it will also star Paul Rudd. No other talent has been announced as of yet.
