Wedding Crashers Director To Helm Hugh Hefner Biopic

hef

There have been many directors attached to direct a biopic based on the legendary Playboy founder Hugh Hefner over the years, including Brett Ratner and even Martin Scorsese at one point, but it looks like WEDDING CRASHERS helmer David Dobkin could be the man for the job.

Dobkin, whose next film THE JUDGE, which stars Robert Downey Jr and Robert Duvall, sees him move away from comedy after such hits as WEDDING CRASHERS, FRED CLAUS and THE CHANGE-UP. The untitled Hugh Hefner movie, said to blend dramatic and comedic elements, will be produced by Jerry Weintraub and scripted by Brit Peter Morgan (RUSH, THE QUEEN).

Dobkin is in talks to direct Warner Bros.’ untitled biopic about Hugh Hefner, the bon vivant and mogul who founded Playboy magazine in 1953 and built the magazine into a media empire while cultivating a reputation as a swinging bachelor well into his ’80s.

The project is now housed over at Warner Brothers, where Dobkin has made most of his movies.

THE JUDGE will be released in cinemas in October, 2014.

Wow, it’s over 40 years since I was Bunny Deana at the London Playboy Club, and here we are still discussing Playboy and Bunnies. It just goes to show what a great idea it was (and honestly what a great job to have). If anyone is interested, I have a collection of original (and now historic!) photographs online at Bunny Deana Photo Album, illustrating what I think was the golden age of classic Playboy.
