Remember the Angelina Jolie starring TOMB RAIDER movies from many years ago? Awful weren’t they? Well, that’s my memory of them. Just when you thought that the character of Lara Croft could not be reinvented for a modern audience, we get treated to this, a new fan-made short named ‘Croft,’ based upon the games by created by Core Design.
The twenty-minute film revolves around a woman who will risk everything to save a young girl held hostage in the mountains by a group of mercenaries. There are elements of some of the great action movies of the 1980s here, most notably, in my opinion, DIE HARD more than anything else, and of course the filmmakers incorporate parts of the classic game too (the twin handed gunplay, frantic running etc).
The direction from Trevor Addie is outstanding, the photography stunning and the editing top notch. This really is studio quality stuff.
Probably the last great piece of filmmaking you’ll see in 2013, the film can be watched in its entirety below and you can click here for more info on the filmmakers and production.
Beautifully, brutally breathtaking.
