A Closer Look At Matt Smith’s Ageing Process In ‘Doctor Who’

While Matt Smith’s tenure as British television’s most-loved sci-fi character The Doctor recently came to an end, it will be a long, long time before fans of the show forget his marvellous contribution to DOCTOR WHO.

With that in mind, here’s a closer look at the superb make-up transformation Smith underwent in ‘The Time of the Doctor‘. Neill Gorton was the man behind the face, sculpting the initial moulds:

These sculpts were then used to create prosthetics, which were applied in layers to the youthful actor:

It’s quite a remarkable change, and was certainly great (and genuinely heartbreaking) to see unfold on screen. While Matt’s reign as The Doctor might have suffered from some weak writing in parts, he never faltered as an actor and is well deserving of a long and successful career (which seemingly awaits with his Hollywood debut in Ryan Gosling’s HOW TO KILL A MONSTER).

The Time of the Doctor‘ is due for release on Blu-ray and DVD in the UK on 20th January, 2014.
