BATMAN VS SUPERMAN is mere weeks away from shooting and we still haven’t had any casting announcements since Gal Gadot was confirmed as Wonder Woman. There is also the small matter of a certain bald baddie that’s been rumoured to be in the film ever since MAN OF STEEL was released. Of course, these issues all seem very trivial compared to this latest rumour, which claims that BATMAN VS SUPERMAN will be mimicking the LORD OF THE RINGS and THE HOBBIT trilogies by shooting back-to-back with the long stalled JUSTICE LEAGUE.
Earlier this month Dwayne Johnson claimed that he will be working with Warner Bros and DC Entertainment on an upcoming superhero project this year. This was quickly followed up with reports that he was in line for the role of John Stewart AKA Green Lantern, after Ryan Reynolds played the character in 2011’s mega flop GREEN LANTERN film. As the only DC-related project currently lined up for production in 2014 is BATMAN VS SUPERMAN, logic would dictate that the character could make an appearance somewhere in the Superman-sequel. However, now it’s being reported that Johnson’s mystery DC film is indeed the JUSTICE LEAGUE team-up we have all been waiting a very long time for.
It’s being reported that Warner Bros have decided to shoot BATMAN VS SUPERMAN and JUSTICE LEAGUE back-to-back in order to utilize their incredibly talented cast as much as possible before their schedules become busy. If true, this would be an ingenious idea to build hype for Warner Bros’ own mega superhero team-up, with the report adding that BATMAN VS SUPERMAN will end with ‘an insane cliffhanger/teaser that leads right into JUSTICE LEAGUE’. This would certainly explain why so many characters are said to be included in the MAN OF STEEL sequel including Nightwing, The Flash and maybe even Doomsday. It would also put fans minds at ease who believe the film is becoming too ‘overcrowded’ by creating possibly the best post-credits scene in history and uniting the entire Justice League. This would definitely be one way for DC to rival Marvel’s THE AVENGERS and it makes perfect sense. After all, Warners no longer have the time to introduce each of their characters individually if they want any hope of catching up with Marvel.
BATMAN VS SUPERMAN (so far) stars Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Lawrence Fishburne, Diane Lane, Ben Affleck and Gal Gadot. Check back with us for more news on the film, with filming set to begin in Michigan this February.
