BFI To Help UK Sundance Films

BFI

Good news for the UK film industry today – the BFI (British Film Institute) is giving a helping hand to Brit films shown at the Sundance Film Festival.

The scheme, just a pilot initially, will give UK films without US distribution and a budget under £2M a cash award of up to £25K to help with promotion and marketing.

The money goes to the US distributor, who will have to apply at least 14 weeks before the film’s theatrical release date.

This welcome news comes at a very opportune moment. With Sundance starting in just a few days, we might even see some features gain from the BFI’s scheme. Hong Khaou’s LILTING, Stuart Murdoch’s GOD HELP THE GIRL and Iain Forsyth and Jane Pollard’s documentary about Nick Cave, 20, 000 DAYS ON EARTH, are all eligible for the award.

Sundance runs from 15th January to 26th in Park City, Utah.

Claire Joanne Huxham comes from the south-west, where the cider flows free and the air smells of manure. She teaches A-level English by day and fights crime by night. When not doing either of these things she can usually be found polishing her Star Trek DVD boxsets. And when she can actually be bothered she writes fiction and poetry that pops up on the web and in print. Her favourite film in the whole world, ever, is BLADE RUNNER.
