Frankly it’s surprising that it’s taken this long for someone to make a biopic about the late great James Brown. Studios are normally quick to capitalise on the stories of dead musicians and Mr Brown was of the most iconic artists of the twentieth century. It seems we won’t have to wait too much longer though as the first image from Tate Taylor’s GET ON UP is with us.
The picture shows 42 star Chadwick Boseman portraying the Godfather of soul along side a sax playing Craig Robinson. Following the singers slide from childhood poverty to world wide renown, the film promises to examine the man as well as the music and delve into the darker side of the singers life. While it might not shine with high box office prospects, it looks to be a heart felt commemoration that will help the pioneer of funk be discovered by a new generation.
GET ON UP is set for release on the August 1st 2014 and you can check out the first still below.
