‘The Conjuring’ Spin-Off ‘Annabelle’ Gets Their Leads

Annabelle

Released at the tail end of last summer, THE CONJURING directed by James Wan, was a surprise hit. It saw the INSIDIOUS director team with star Patrick Wilson and revolved around paranormal-investigating couple, the Warrens.

The film began with a flashback tale from an old investigation which centred around a doll called Annabelle. Details of the story were never fully explained, but the doll was heavily referred to as being exceptionally dangerous, so much so that she spends the film trapped in a glass box. Much of the publicity for the film also focussed on the character; even when we recently attended a ghost-hunting jaunt for the home entertainment release, the haunted house was littered with replica Annabelle’s. The popularity of the doll has seen the studio green-light it’s own spin-off movie, ANNABELLE, which will be directed by John R. Leonetti who acted as Director Of Photography for THE CONJURING.

It has now emerged that the leads have been cast in the form of (not to be confused with the doll) Annabelle Wallis (Peaky Blinders) and Ward Horton (One Life To Live). Neither one has done much in the world of film thus far; Wallis had a small part in X-MEN: FIRST CLASS, and Ward can be glimpsed briefly in THE WOLF OF WALL STREET, but ANNABELLE will see them make their leading debuts.

It remains to be seen whether the film will delve into Annabelle’s past, or if it will be a completely new tale, having her escape her glass tomb to torment a new couple. Who knows maybe she’ll do a Chucky, find love, and team up with SAW’S Billy the puppet. There is also no definitive release date, though late 2015 seems plausible at the moment.
