Forest Whitaker likes to keep himself busy doesn’t he? Following his acclaimed performance in THE BUTLER, he is currently in talks to direct and co-star in Summit’s adaptation of the 2007 novel THE SHACK.
The film, which is adapted from the book of the same name by William Paul Young, tells the story of Mackenzie Allen Philips. Following the aftermath of a personal tragedy, he receives a mysterious note from someone named Papa, inviting him to a place called The Shack. Mack responds to the invitation and soon discovers that he is in the presence of God, and goes on a life-transforming journey of truth, forgiveness, and ultimately acceptance. The film is currently being penned by YOUNG GUNS screenwriter John Fusco.
Whitaker has been a busy fella over the last year, starring in THE BUTLER and producing FRUITVALE STATION. It was also announced yesterday that he is in talks to join TAKEN 3. It is unclear when THE SHACK is heading into production, but we shouldn’t imagine too long now!
