The sword-swinging brilliance of Zack Snyder’s bloody and brutal take on the Frank Miller graphic novel 300 was another worthy reminder that the period actioners of the 1950s and 60s are not yet dead. Thanks to a mountain of green-screen, the world of Sparta and its 300 fearless warriors was brought to vivid life and went on to make a superstar of Scot, Gerard Butler, as the roaring Leonidas.
The follow-up film, this time directed by Noam Murro, will take place around the same time as those same events, with Sullivan Stapleton’s General Themistocles forced to take to the high seas and battle Xerxes’ Persian navy commander Artemesia, played by the stunning Eva Green as well as contend with the ego-driven brute on land.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
