Gary Oldman Wanted For ‘Star Wars: Episode VII’

Gary Oldman

We’ve heard plenty of rumours about actors who’ve auditioned for STAR WARS: EPISODE VII, but news on people the production has targeted specifically has been scarce. We know Zac Efron is in the mix somewhere, as is Jesse Plemons. Now veteran actor Gary Oldman has apparently been contacted to join the cast of the decade’s most hotly-anticipated sequel.

Speaking to Sky Movies, Oldman said:

‘They’ve called, yeah… I’m more cynical about it now, I believe it when I’m on the plane home. You know, the deal isn’t done. But yeah, they’ve inquired.’

His wording suggests both parties are interested (‘the deal isn’t done’, but it might be soon?) which isn’t too surprising, as Oldman hasn’t shied away from franchises in the past, appearing in everything from HARRY POTTER AND THE PRISONER OF AZKABAN to Christopher Nolan’s DARK KNIGHT trilogy and this summer’s DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES.

There’s no word on who J.J. Abrams wants Oldman to play, but his versatility means it isn’t much of a stretch to imagine him on either side of the force. New Republic general? Sith master? A Gonk droid? The possibilities are endless. Let us know who you’d like to see Oldman play in the comments below.

STAR WARS: EPISODE VII is directed by J.J. Abrams and is due for release on 18th December, 2015.
