Based on J.G. Ballard’s 1975 novel of the same name, HIGH RISE takes a look at the occupants in a futuristic apartment complex. Said occupants soon find themselves spiraling into a a vortex of destruction due to hedonistic lifestyles and battles with “enemy floors”. Ben WHeatley, he man behind the fantastic KILL LIST, is set to direct and the production has released a teaser poster for the film which is set to shoot this summer with Tom Hiddleston attached to star.
Ballard’s books have always split readers, and the film adaptations are no exception. David Cronenberg’s CRASH is a clear example of this, and the film for me is an absolute classic, however it is easy to see why many do not connect to it. Wheatley has proven himself as a darker filmmaker, so should be able to handle to subject matter very well. Jeremy Thomas (13 ASSASSINS) produces while Amy Jump is on scripting duties.
