27 DRESSES and THE PROPOSAL director Anne Fletcher is currently in talks to helm action comedy DON’T MESS WITH TEXAS, with Reese Witherspoon and Sofia Vergara set to star.
Originally bought by Universal, details didn’t come together in time and MGM have taken over the project. Reese is set to star as a police officer who has to team-up and go on the run with criminal Sofia. Not much else is known about the film, but with Fletcher attached to direct it’s sure to be popular. Although normally a ‘rom-com’ director (she’s also the lady behind STEP UP and THE GUILT TRIP), it’d be good to see Anne take on something a little more exciting – or maybe Witherspoon and Vergara will get together at the end? We’ll have to wait and see.
I think it’s brilliant to see more opportunities given to female directors, especially when a large portion of the supporting team are also women (Witherspoon’s company Pacific Standard are set to produce).
With Vergara on hiatus from ABC’s Modern Family, filming is set to start some time in the spring.
