It seem as if Miss. Johansson will quite literally transcend from the grand pedestal of male desire to a role that is out of this world this year as she dons the part of a seductress unlike any other. Jonathan Glazer, who you may have heard of due to his work on SEXY BEAST and BIRTH, directs what looks to be another in a long line of existential ‘what if’ scenarios that seem to be flocking to the silver screen lately (think Spike Jonze’s HER) and we should welcome it with open arms. High hopes seem to be what’s fueling the fire for UNDER THE SKIN, and perhaps rightfully so considering the dark, gritty tone reminiscient of Kubrick. With it, Johansson who terrifies and tantalises alike, playing an intensely powerful protagonist that can literally mesmerise men to the point of disappearance. Fingers crossed that Glazer tells the ‘alien girl seduces men’ story better than Roger Donaldson did back in ’95 with SPECIES.

From visionary director Jonathan Glazer comes a stunning career transformation, a masterpiece of existential science fiction that journeys to the heart of what it means to be human, extraterrestrial — or something in between. A voluptuous woman of unknown origin (Scarlett Johansson) combs the highways in search of isolated or forsaken men, luring this succession of lost souls into an otherworldly lair. They are seduced, stripped of their humanity, and never heard from again. Based on the novel by Michel Faber (The Crimson Petal and the White), UNDER THE SKIN examines human experience from the perspective of an unforgettable heroine who grows too comfortable in her borrowed skin, until she is abducted into humanity with devastating results.
UNDER THE SKIN will be released in the U.K. on March 14th, with it showing in L.A. and New York on April 4th, followed by a limited release on April 11th.
