Darren Aronofsky, the director of PI, REQUIEM FOR A DREAM, and THE FOUNTAIN, has taken on a story of biblical proportions in NOAH, the tale of a man and his family trying to get two of every animal onto a gigantic boat before a flood hits. It’s being sold as an EVAN ALMIGHTY reboot, but taking a much more serious approach.
We can now reveal that it is the director’s cut that will be hitting cinemas in the coming months, despite reports from last autumn that Paramount and Aronofsky were having arguments over whether to release the original cut or a truncated version. Aronsky has revealed to The Hollywood Reporter that Paramount have tested half a dozen cuts of the movie with audiences, something Aronofsky is very set against:
There was a rough patch. [Paramount]…tested as many as half-a-dozen of its own cuts of the movie. I was upset — of course. No one’s ever done that to me. I imagine if I made comedies and horror films, it would be helpful. In dramas, it’s very, very hard to do. I’ve never been open to it.
Paramount were even testing versions longer than Aronofsky’s cut, which runs at 2 hours and 12 minutes. It’s clear to see why Aronsky feels this was a fruitless endeavor, for how can an audience judge such a huge movie when the special effects were unfinished and the score incomplete? Fortunately Aronofsky was able to go ahead with his final vision:
They tried what they wanted to try, and eventually they came back. My version of the film hasn’t been tested … It’s what we wrote and what was greenlighted.I’m a great closer. I’ve never reshot a frame, and I think that’s very odd on big-budget movies. We’re meticulous. We come from independent film, with limited resources.
NOAH is released in the US on 28th March and in the UK on 4th April. The film stars Russell Crowe, Jennifer Connelly, Emma Watson, Logan Lerman, Ray Winstone, Kevin Durant, and Frank Langella.
Luke likes many things, films and penguins being among them. He's loved films since the age of 9, when STARGATE and BATMAN FOREVER changed the landscape of modern cinema as we know it. His love of film extends to all aspects of his life, with trips abroad being planned around film locations and only buying products featured in Will Smith movies. His favourite films include SEVEN SAMURAI, PASSION OF JOAN OF ARC, IN BRUGES, LONE STAR, GODZILLA, and a thousand others.

Very interesting…Aronofsky seems very sure of himself with his movies so I am not surprised he didn’t give in to Paramount.

Also why I have no idea ‘what’ that final cut will be!
