Yesterday we got our first look at on-set footage for AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON, as it shot scenes in Johannesburg, South Africa. Now it has been announced that key scenes for the superhero sequel will be shot in South Korea’s capital, Seoul. Studio scenes will be shot at Shepperton Studios in London, while Italy is also on the film’s itinerary. Marvel Studios president, Kevin Feige, said of the newest shooting location:
South Korea is the perfect location for a movie of this magnitude because it features cutting-edge technology, beautiful landscapes and spectacular architecture.
While Korea’s minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Yoo Jin Ryong, reciprocated the excitement by saying the country was:
very excited to have the production in Korea. (And they) expect this to serve as the footstep of many more opportunities yet to come.
It’s certainly a big production for any country, and it will be great to see the world’s mightiest heroes in one of my favourite countries. THE BOURNE LEGACY is the only other major Hollywood film to shoot in South Korea, and it was a lot of fun spotting recognisable locations. Other shooting locations may be revealed soon, which gives the idea that THE AVENGERS is going very international indeed. Asia is a constantly growing market as well, which is something Marvel have recognised by shooting (admittedly unnecessary) scenes exclusively for the Chinese release of IRON MAN III, as well as holding that film’s world premier in Seoul.
AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON is released on 1st May 2015. It stars Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Scarlett Johansson, Cobie Smulders, James Spader, Paul Bettany, Jeremy Renner, Samuel L. Jackson, Elizabeth Olsen, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Anthony Mackie, Don Cheadle, and Thomas Kretschmann.
