‘Pushing Daisies’ Musical In The Works

Pushing DaisiesAs though it was touched and brought back to life, cult TV series Pushing Daisies may return in musical form. It’s the perfect vehicle for such a transition, with the whimsical story recounting the adventures of a pie-maker who could bring people back to life for 1 minute. If they lived for longer than one minute, then somebody else would die in their place. Other complications include the fact that if he touches a ressurected person a second time, then they die for good. This puts an extra strain on his relationship with his childhood sweetheart who he has brought back to life.

Pushing Daisies was a delightful murder mystery show with a lot of character and glorious production design, but like many shows, it ended all too quickly. Ideas of films and the like have been circulating for some time now. Creator, Bryan Fuller, has had mixed success over the years, with Dead Like Me and Pushing Daisies becoming cult classics despite their lack of seasons and  The Munsters remake Mockingbird Lane failing to go past a pilot. But with the man riding high on the success of Hannibal this could very well be the push he needs. Speaking to Broadway World Fuller announced that both film and musical was a possibility:

I’ve had conversations very recently with Barry Sonnenfeld about financing a film, and with Kristin Chenoweth and Warner Brothers about developing a stage musical.

The show certainly had its musical moments, such as the example below where Chenoweth breaks into a rendition of GREASE’s ‘Hopelessly Devoted To You’. Either way, I’ll be very happy for anything more Pushing Daisies.

Luke likes many things, films and penguins being among them. He's loved films since the age of 9, when STARGATE and BATMAN FOREVER changed the landscape of modern cinema as we know it. His love of film extends to all aspects of his life, with trips abroad being planned around film locations and only buying products featured in Will Smith movies. His favourite films include SEVEN SAMURAI, PASSION OF JOAN OF ARC, IN BRUGES, LONE STAR, GODZILLA, and a thousand others.
