‘The Lego Movie’ Does Big US Business Again

Lego Movie LogoFor its third week in a row, THE LEGO MOVIE came out on top at the US box-office. That’s nothing to sniff at, especially when it’s still bringing in high number such as a $31 million weekend. Although great for the adventure set in a world of building blocks, it just highlighted the poor take of the the two new openers, 3 DAYS TO KILL and POMPEII. Although 3 DAYS TO KILL, the Kevin Costner thriller from those that brought us TAKEN, did the kind of business that was expected of it, POMPEII proved to be a massive disappointment. With a budget of $100 million, the film made back just 10% of that. The film has spent the last few months pushing the disaster/romance angle, but it looks as though US audiences just weren’t grabbed by another romance meets disaster.

Elsewhere, holdovers RIDE ALONG and FROZEN continue to do fantastic business, with FROZEN about to reach 3 months in the US top-ten. That in itself is quite amazing. Meanwhile, THE MONUMENTS MEN continues to be fairly consistent, with ROBOCOP and ABOUT LAST NIGHT doing stable business too.
