Non-Stop Neeson Beats Jesus In US Box Office!

Non-Stop-Liam-Neeson

In a surprise turn of events, NON-STOP (which many have jokingly referred to as TAKEN 3) has topped the box office this weekend, beating an even more unexpected second-placer, Christopher Spencer’s SON OF GOD. Both films have proven popular stateside, to many’s surprise, with NON-STOP faring better on all critical fronts (and from our very own Dan’s review) in comparison to the biblical drama, whilst still facing critical disapproval, taking in a lacklustre $28.9m.

As we reported earlier, FROZEN hit $1 billion worldwide, and is set to climb even higher with a release in Japan in the foreseeable future, making it one of the top 20 most successful original pictures, ever. In terms of originality however, NON-STOP is one of three films from Universal Pictures alongside Ride Along and Lone Survivor to open in the top spot.

To contend, SON OF GOD, which opened impressively opened with $25.6m, just under that of PASSION OF THE CHRIST, and exceeding most biblical drama films which tell the story of Jesus of Nazareth, surprised everyone with its success. THE LEGO MOVIE, on the other hand is still holding strong at #3, which may reach $300m before falling off for DVD release.
