Whatever your position on the inclusion of Batman and Wonder Woman in Zack Snyder’s upcoming MAN OF STEEL follow up, it’s hard to deny that the project already has superhuman levels of ambition. Ben Affleck may be a controversial choice for the caped crusader but after letting it seep in for a while many people’s trepidation has slowly turned to curiosity. We want to know how it’s going to work and ultimately whether it will go beyond the visual flare seen in MAN OF STEEL and actually have some depth. It seems we’ll just have to wait for an answer to that question but in the mean time here’s the latest from Snyder who’s recently been testing the films new costumes:
“We’re getting ready to start shooting in a month or so,” Says the director. “It’s going great. I’m very excited… We were just testing the suits, right? The new Batsuit and the Superman suit. It wasn’t even with the actors, right? It was just to see ‘em. I was standing there, they were standing next to each other and I was like, ‘Guys, someone take a picture! This has never happened before!”
It certainly hasn’t but here’s hoping the novelty of seeing these titular characters together in one movie isn’t all the project has to offer. Snyder went on to talk about the plot of the new film and mentioned that it wouldn’t necessarily be sticking to anyone existing story lines.
In ‘Man of Steel,’ we had to create an origin story, a mythology. There’s a lot of energy into that, which we love doing. Don’t get me wrong. But when you think about how fun it is too — now that you’ve got these characters — to now let ‘em loose. That’s fun! …[it] literally takes the ‘Man of Steel’ and ‘Batman’ universes and explodes them. We know the material, unfortunately, the fans don’t know the material. So, we’re casting according to what’s happening in the script. And we’re hoping that leads to enough originality, enough perspective on what we’re doing that you get something fresh and exciting. I understand the canon. I’m not crazy. I know what these characters need from a mythological standpoint.”
The man certainly knows the playing field and his visuals are outstandingly appropriate for the genre but whether the sequel can negate the problems of the first film is yet to be seen. MAN OF STEEL suffered from having a little too much plot and the new film will have to manage not just one but three of DC’s flagship characters. Can it be done and will it? Do let us know.

I was extremely excited when they announced this last summer. Then began losing all interest when the casting decisions were announced. At this point since they have taken so much heat they look like they’re scrambling to put the pieces together so it’s not an apocalyptic disaster. Snyder & WB will say anything to save face at this point. Excited about costumes??? The unveiling of the costumes was pushed back, much like the release date, because people hated the toy design WB came up with as a marketing test for the costumes. (Do a google search.) I’d be shocked if they started filming next month… or so. Stop lying to us Snyder. We’d appreciate the honesty.
