Last Sunday night Leonardo DiCaprio walked away again from the Oscars empty handed. This was not a first for our boy, who’d previously been nominated for his roles in THE AVIATOR, BLOOD DIAMOND and WHAT’S EATING GILBERT GRAPE.
THE WOLF OF WALL STREET star has accepted this loss graciously, while people on social networking sites offered their eternal support and dedication to Leonardo’s amazing work as an actor. One post even quoted Leo saying he does not mind if he wins or not, because the reason he is an actor is not for the awards but for the love of the work itself. Quite right to.
However, a theatre troupe in Russia is not taking the loss lightl and have decided to make Leonardo a ‘honorary member’ as well as offering him parts and sending him their own cast-iron ‘Russian Oscar’ statuette. Commenting on this decision to a local publication, the theatre’s spokesman for The Chamber Theatre Yury Sychev commented:
“As Leonardo does not speak Russian, we can start with offering him a wordless part of a servant in the play Plennye Dukhi (Captive Spirits)“. After a few wordless parts, Sychev said they would gladly consider the Hollywood actor for the main parts in the plays Intrigue and Love by Friedrich Schiller and Shkola dlya Durakov (School for Fools) by Russian author Sasha Sokolov. According to Mr Sychev, DiCaprio has the workings of a real actor, as he stated, “Learning a part in a foreign language without knowing what it says shouldn’t be a problem for a true actor”.
And as for the Oscar statuette, The Chamber Theatre purchased a statue from a local company that looks rather similar to the real Oscar and they are planning to send it to Leonardo. “This strong-willed ‘Russian Oscar’ is to remind DiCaprio that he has to move on in spite of all hardships”, said Sychev.
Wonder what Leo will think when he recieves a 1.5 kilogram cast-iron statuette from the Urals?
