‘We Will Rock You’ To Close After 12 Years

we will rock you to endIt has been announced that the Ben Elton and Queen musical We Will Rock You will hang up its glam rock wigs and unitards after 12 years at the Dominion Theatre, London.

The musical tells the story of a dystopian world in which real music has been sacrificed for computer generated stars. A group called The Real Bohemians, who are inspired by the legends of the golden age of Rock, set out to overthrow the cyber stars so they can perform their own music. It features over 30 Queen tracks, including Radio Gaga, Bohemian Rhapsody and Under Pressure.  It is definitely going out on a high. It has been performed over 4000 times to 6.5 million people, and has won numerous awards here and around the world. It will officially close 31st May 2014.

In a statement, creators Ben Elton, Brian May and Roger Taylor said:

“We want to thank every one of the many hundreds of incredible musical theatre artists, musicians and crew with whom we’ve had the privilege of working at the Dominion since 2002. And of course the incredible audiences who have rewarded them with over four and a half thousand standing ovations!”

It is unclear as to if the show will move to a new venue. But The Dominion Theatre has revealed that they will refurbish the venue to “to welcome an exciting new production in 2015.”
